Learn to Swim General Information- Read Carefully!

 

  • Swim lessons will be offered twice per week, in 3 week sessions (6 classes total) for 35 minutes per class.   Sessions will be Tuesdays & Thursdays OR Saturdays & Sundays.  

  • Levels 1, 2 and 3 will require 1 parent or guardian in the water with the child.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  The parent/guardian will follow the swim instructor’s direction to facilitate skill development for the child. 

  • There will be a maximum of 4 participants per class. 

  • Registration can be done online at  www.myglendaleparks.com To receive residency rates, you must pre-register for residency status for 2020.    See Frequently Asked Questions for detail. 

  • Please register for the specific swim level your child is qualified for.   If unsure,  swim lesson level assessments are offered by reservation daily, during the last 10 minutes of any hour we are open.

  • We apologize but at this time, we are unable to accommodate make-up class requests for a missed swim lesson.    

  • NO REFUNDS will be issued for aquatics programs, including registering your child for the wrong level or time, or for missing classes. 

  • Private lessons are not available at this time.

COVID Pool Use Requirements

  • Failure to follow these and any other requirements, as directed by staff,  will result in immediate removal from program without refund. 

  • All patrons & staff must maintain 6 feet distance between people not in their household at all times (in lobby, outside waiting to enter facility, while walking into facility, on deck and in the water).  

  • All patrons & staff are required to wear an appropriate cloth face covering at all times,  except when in the water or when staff are on guard tower or on deck teaching lessons.  Wearing the face covering is required when in line waiting to enter the facility, in the lobby and on the deck. 

  • Patrons are required to arrive to the pool ready to swim and be prepared to leave wet.  There are on-deck restrooms and showers available but locker rooms/changing facilities are closed at this time.

  • A shower before pool entry is required.

  • Upon arrival, facility patrons will be asked to confirm that they do not have any of the symptoms that the CDC has indicated are symptoms of COVID-19.

  • At the end of the swim lesson, participants will be asked to leave immediately.  No sunbathing, showering, changing, lingering, or loitering will be permitted.

Parent & Me Starfish

(Ages 6 mo. - 3.5 yrs.)



Full session fees:

Residents - $40

Non-Residents - $55

1/2 session fees:

Residents - $25

Non-Residents - $40

 

Adult participation is required.  Students in "Starfish" will learn to adjust to the water, water entry, jumping in, front kick, blowing bubbles, front glide, back float, underwater exploration, arm movement, and safety skills.  Parent skills will be taught, including towing with personal flotation devices and rescues.

Level IV Dolphins 

(Ages 6 - 15 yrs.)

Full session fees:

Residents - $40

Non-Residents - $55

1/2 session fees:

Residents - $25

Non-Residents - $40

 

"Dolphins" will learn to develop confidence and improve other aquatic skills. The breaststroke, sidestroke, and basic turning at the wall will be introduced. Personal safety and rescue techniques are also emphasized.

Prerequisite: Children must be at least 6 years of age and possess either a Level III completion certificate or skills equivalent to that level, including the ability to swim 15 yards unassisted. Children at this level are encouraged to try out for the summer swim team.

Level I Frogs 

(Ages 3.5 - 12 yrs.)

Full session fees:

Residents - $40

1/2 session fees:

Non-Residents - $40

 

"Frogs" will learn to feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. Students will learn to adjust to water entry, perform the front kick, how to glide and float, breathing control, underwater exploration, beginner strokes, and various safety skills.

Level V/VI Sharks

(Ages 6 - 15 yrs.)

Full session fees:

1/2 session fees:

Residents - $25

Non-Residents - $40

 

"Sharks" will to learn coordination and refinement of keystrokes. The butterfly, open turns, and the feet-first surface dive are introduced. Children at this level are encouraged to try out for the summer swim team. The objective of Level VI is to polish strokes so students swim with more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. Students develop considerable endurance by the end of this course. Additional flip turns and the long shallow dive are taught.

Prerequisite: Children entering Level V & VI must have a Level IV certificate or must meet all requirements to complete Level IV. Children at this level are encouraged to try out for the summer swim team.

Level II Sea Horses

(Ages 6 - 12 yrs.)

1/2 session fees:

"Sea Horses" will learn fundamental skills, including locomotion skills on front and back and basic self-help skills taught in previous levels.

Level III Fish 

(Ages 6 - 15 yrs.)

Full session fees:

Residents - $40

Non-Residents - $55

1/2 session fees:

Residents - $25

Non-Residents - $40

"Fish" will learn to build on the skills learned in Level II. This includes coordination of the front and back crawl, introduction to elementary backstroke, diving and treading water, along with additional safety skills.

Prerequisite: Children must possess either a Level II completion certificate or skills equivalent to that level, including the ability to swim five yards unassisted.

Adults

(Ages 16 yrs. and up)

1/2 session fees:
